In 2023, the Gallery of Contemporary Mosaics invited established mosaic artists to re-make one of their early works for display in a show titled Re-dux. I instantly remembered 2005 when I timidly walked into the Chicago Mosaic School for the first time.  My teacher, Karen Ami (founder and director of the school) encouraged me as I made one of my earliest mosaics and my very first using the opaque Italian glass called smalti.  I copied a detail of a Vatican wall mosaic focused on the story of Mary washing Jesus’ feet with her hair.  First, I re-made the representational mosaic literally using my improved skills.   Then I created an abstract mosaic, Entwined, based on my emotional response to the foot washing story.
